In a cooperative preschool, parents and teachers work together to provide a well-rounded, enriched preschool experience for children. Parents work in the classroom periodically as the teacher's assistant.
Each family uses its talents and interests in fulfilling the various "jobs" needed to keep the preschool running smoothly. Parents have a voice in how the school is run by participating on the Preschool Board. Parents also plan field trips, parties, and other activities for each class.
Your participation in a cooperative preschool smoothes the transition from home to school for your child. Your participation in a cooperative preschool shows your child the value you place on his/her education. Your child benefits from the extra hands and minds that cooperative parents provide, making your child's preschool experience richer, more varied, and centered on the child.
You get to observe your child grow, develop, and become more independent. You will gain knowledge and understanding of early childhood classroom routines and developmentally appropriate practices. You and your child will most likely form friendships that will last throughout their school years - and sometimes a lifetime.
Being a part of a cooperative preschool takes more time, more effort, and more commitment, but we're confident you will feel you made the right choice. Co-op parents are special people, committed to being involved with their children's lives in all areas. For more information, please download the following paper:
